Chigwell is a town in the Epping Forest district of Essex. It is located Situated a mere ten miles North East of Charing Cross in London, and is quite often frequented by those in search of a brief respite away from London congestion. In fact, the town is colloquially known as the 'first village out of London '. Served by two London Underground stations and has a population of around 12,500 and is considered an affluent area, which since the TV series Essex Wives , journalists have called (with Loughton and Buckhurst Hill), the Essex golden triangle . The area is characterised by large suburban houses, notably in Manor Road , Hainault Road and Chigwell High Road , which featured in the popular English situation comedy Birds of a Feather.
Chigwell is served by Chigwell station and Grange Hill station, both on the Central line of the London Underground. For a more frequent service to London there is also nearby Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Woodford and Hainault all within a ten minute drive.
